The Great Wait

Happy Summer, All! It's been a bit since we've given you an update. We are in the midst of the waiting to be matched with an birth family.We've celebrated birthdays, vacations, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. The adoption is an ever-present whirlwind of emotions, roller-coaster of hope and anxiety but we are so grateful for this progress we've made since we started down this adoption road in January.

The Logistics

After our homestudy approval in June, we have been working with our attorney in Florida, signed on with a local Massachusetts adoption agency, and are completing applications for another agency in Florida. This helps spread out our profile reach and gets us in front of more parents considering adoption. We've seen several birth family profiles and are eagerly awaiting meeting the match for us. We are so very grateful for the amazing professionals - our case managers, our attorneys, fellow adoptive families who are providing us with support and guidance as we navigate this process.

We have been building an amazing profile book thanks to the graphic design talents of my friend and entrepreneur, Alissa. She's designed a beautiful book that captures who we are. This book is what birth mothers will review when they are selecting the families they'd like to consider for placement.

The Fundraising

We've been hard at work fundraising, saving, and applying for grants to ensure that we have our finances in a row if we match with a birth family quickly and the financial output is immediate. We received our first grant - $2,000 for case management support from our adoption agency - Adoption Resources. We should hear about some major grants by the end of August! We are so very grateful to each of our supporters who continue to help us fundraise for our adoption. We are nearly halfway to our fundraising goal seven months since we announced our adoption. Wow!

The Events

We have hosted some really fun fundraisers like Yoga in the Park with the amazing Barbara Gale and March Madness Brackets. We are in the process of planning our Whoa We're Halfway There Fall Festival Event on October 7th - a fun party and celebration of our supporters.

The Preparation

We continue to educate ourselves, trying to prepare as much as we can for an unknown placement date. There are so many logistics and things we simply do not know like location of our adoption, when our child will be born, and what we can do to better prepare . We are taking Newborn parenting classes online and setting up our nursery in small ways.

It Takes a Village

The cliche stands strong - it takes a village. We are so grateful for our village of friends, family, community who continue to show up for us in beautiful ways. We've had friends donate hand me downs from their own children. Friends who are emotional support in major ways. Thank you truly. We simply cannot thank you enough.
